In aid of The Alzheimer’s Society
On Saturday 30th June the ELLUC team embarked on their second of three challenges in aid of the Alzheimer’s society, The Yorkshire 3 peaks. Thankfully all of the participants who started the challenge finished it but never the less there were some sore bodies around the offices.
The challenge ahead of the ELLUC team was no small task and any who would underestimate the great Yorkshire Three Peaks will perish! Or just come out with some blisters and due to the sunny conditions, sunburn. The team was up bright and early, with a sausage barm in one hand and a daunting task of the three peaks in the other.
As they got underway and over the first peak, which terrain was mostly grassland, the team grew a sense of positivity and motivation but little did they know the worst was yet to come. The weather was impeding the walkers with no wind and the sun beating down on them on the way to the second peak. Taking longer than expected, they finally reached the top. The thought of reaching the end was still but a distant memory after a few close encounters scaling down the treacherous descent of the second peak, with a few walkers slipping on the rocky cliff edge. As the team made it to the last checkpoint there was no stopping them to complete the last and final peak of the day. The last peak was a gentle walk which kept the enthusiasm high going into the last ascending stretch until they were met with what some would describe as the Mount Kilimanjaro of Yorkshire. Although this challenge was the harder of the first two, the team managed to stick together and take in the breathtaking sights Yorkshire have to offer on a picturesque Saturday evening.

It was a sensational experience to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks with the ELLUC team, however, I am in no rush to climb any more hills, well, not anytime soon.
